ROSWELL, GA – With floods, power outages, workplace violence attacks and other threats disrupting and jeopardizing unprepared businesses around the country, the Johns Creek (Ga.) Chamber of Commerce recognized the need to act before disaster impacted its members.
Fortunately, the recent launch of the Preaction Emergency Response Alliance™, a first-of-its-type private network offering business continuity and disaster-response capabilities through a low monthly-fee, membership-based organization, means preparedness – and the peace of mind that comes with it – is no longer costly and time consuming.
By becoming the initial Preaction Partner, the Johns Creek Chamber is providing its 340 member businesses access to a free annual Preaction Alliance (www.preaction.com) membership. Thereafter, Chamber members have the option of retaining benefits for less than $1 a day.
“As part of its mission to promote sustainable economic development, the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce is taking action to help its member businesses mitigate the threats they face,’’ said Chamber President Doug Russ. “Not only is preparedness a value-added for each individual business, but it helps protect the community as a whole from potential economic upheaval.’’
The statistics are alarming:
- The American Red Cross states there are more than 70,000 disasters annually, ranging from major events such as natural disasters and infrastructure failure to building fires and floods.
- According to FEMA, more than half of businesses that experience a disaster fail within two years.
Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré (U.S. Army, ret.), best known for restoring direction and effectiveness to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, is the Executive Director of the Preaction Alliance. As part of his commitment to build a “Culture of Preparedness’’ in the private sector, Gen. Honoré is offering every U.S. chamber of commerce the opportunity to become a Preaction Partner, thereby making member businesses eligible for a 90-day free trial.
“The Preaction Alliance brings to bear considerable resources that allow its Members to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters – whether natural, terrorism, communicable illness or infrastructure failure. The lesson learned from Katrina and other recent disasters is clear: You are your own first responder,’’ said Gen. Honoré.
The Preaction Alliance was developed by Firestorm® (www.firestorm.com), a national leader in crisis management, threat assessment/risk analysis, and business continuity. Charter Sponsors include W.W.
